Fake medical student held at DMCH

Medical students at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Tuesday detained a woman posing as a medical student and later handed her over to Shahbagh Police Station.

The detainee identified herself as Monika Akter Mitu (32). Students recovered a fake identity card, an apron and a stethoscope from her possession. Police later took her into custody.

The incident took place around 2:00pm on Tuesday at the female students’ common room of Dhaka Medical College, according to students.

DMCH sources said the woman had been visiting the students’ common room for around a month. In recent days, some students grew suspicious of her presence. When questioned on Tuesday, she failed to give satisfactory answers, after which the matter was reported to the authorities.

Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Rezaul Karim confirmed that police detained the woman after receiving information from Dhaka Medical College authorities. He said police recovered an apron, a stethoscope and a DMCH student ID card from her.

The woman said she is from Tongibari in Munshiganj. Her father is late Momin Ali. She currently lives with her husband Rofiqul Islam Khokon at Hossain Uddin Khan First Lane in Posta, Lalbagh.

She said she passed SSC but did not continue her studies. She added that she had long wanted to become a doctor and had been visiting the medical college for about a month, but never gained access to any classroom.

She further said her real name is Monika Akter Mitu, but she is also known as Nupur Islam Jannat. She claimed she made the identity card from Nilkhet under that name. She also said she is a TikToker and regularly makes videos.

SI Rezaul Karim said the woman has been taken to the police station and legal action will be taken against her.
