The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) on Tuesday, issued a directive to the country’s banks and financial institutions, instructing them to freeze the accounts of former Managing Director (MD) of mobile financial service provider Nagad, Tanveer Ahmed Mishuk, and 12 others.
The accounts will remain frozen, and all transaction details, including account opening forms, transaction statements, and Know Your Customer (KYC) information, must be submitted to the central bank.
No funds can be withdrawn or transferred from these accounts; however, there will be no restrictions on funds entering them.
According to the BFIU’s letter, the list of seized accounts includes Tanveer Mishuk’s father, Obaidullah Ponir, and mother, Nahid Akter.
Other individuals with business ties to Nagad, including Sadaf Roksana, Roksana Kashem Tumpa, Safayet Alam, Tawfiqur Rahman, Maruful Islam Jholok, Aminul Haque, Fakir Bedar Uddin Ahmed, Taifur Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahman Fakir, and Tarek Hasan Sardar, are also on the list.
Last week, Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur raised the question of who the founders and investors of Nagad are during an event.
Around a week later, the BFIU, the country’s sole financial intelligence agency, moved to freeze the bank accounts of those associated with Nagad.
