The government has dismissed former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Masudur Rahman Monir from service after finding him guilty of desertion, misconduct and prolonged unauthorised absence.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a gazette notification on Wednesday, signed by Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury, confirming the dismissal under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
According to the notification, the irregularities occurred while Masudur Rahman was serving as acting company commander of the Crime Prevention Special Company at Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8 in Barishal with the rank of additional superintendent of police.
He allegedly remained absent from duty without prior approval from 13 November 2024.
A search of his office after his disappearance found a 10-day leave application. On 18 November, he also sent a request for four weeks’ medical leave, supported by a doctor’s recommendation, to the relevant office by courier.
However, RAB headquarters returned both applications on 15 December 2024, saying they had not been submitted in accordance with official procedures.
After he remained absent without authorisation for more than 60 days, Police Headquarters recommended departmental action against him on 17 March 2025.
A departmental inquiry found the allegations of misconduct, desertion and unauthorised absence to be substantiated, leading to his dismissal under Rules 3(b) and 3(c) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
Earlier, on 9 July, four other police officers, including an assistant superintendent of police, were also dismissed for violating the same rules.
