Abu Baker Mojumder, candidate for General Secretary (GS) of the “Anti-Discrimination Students’ Council” panel supported by the Democratic Student Council, has commented that everyone will support those elected by the students through voting in the Ducsu election.
He made this statement in response to a question from journalists on Tuesday morning while voting was ongoing in the Ducsu election.
Bakar said, “We hope that the students will bring qualified individuals to leadership. The candidates must accept the verdict given by the students. That is logical, and that is what will happen. There is no possibility of anything beyond that.”
Expressing satisfaction with the overall situation, he said, “From the start of the election campaign until now, we have enjoyed a joyful environment. Voters have come today with enthusiasm to cast their votes.”
In the Ducsu election, 471 candidates are contesting for 28 positions, among whom 62 are female candidates. The highest number of candidates, 217, are competing for member positions.
Additionally, a total of 1,035 candidates are finally contesting for 13 positions across the university’s 18 halls.
The number of voters in this election is 39,775. Among them, 20,873 are male students and 18,902 are female students.
Voters will not be allowed to enter the voting centers with bags, mobile phones, smartwatches, any kind of electronic device, water bottles, or any liquid substance.
In this Ducsu election, around 10 panels, both full and partial, are participating, including the “Independent Student Unity” led by Umama Fatema, the “Abid-Hamim-Mayeed Council” supported by Chhatra Dal, the “United Student Alliance” supported by Islami Chhatra Shibir, the “Discrimination-Resistant Student Parliament” supported by the Bangladesh Democratic Student Council, and the “Resistance Panel” supported by the left alliance.
This time, the votes for the Ducsu election will be counted using Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) machines. The vote counting will be displayed on LED screens outside each center. Finally, the overall results from all centers will be announced at the Senate Building auditorium.
