The first match on Friday in the BPL brought excitement till the very end. Chattogram Royals edged past Rajshahi Warriors in a last-ball finish. They won by two wickets. The win helped Chattogram stay strong at the top of the points table.
After the match, Chattogram captain Mahedi Hasan spoke to the media. He said the team backed Hasan Nawaz to finish the game if he stayed till the end. Mahedi praised his calm batting and said he rarely sees such an innings. He said the most important thing was the win and added that the team felt relaxed after it.
Mahedi also talked about his captaincy. He said he had to take charge because of the team situation. He admitted the start was tough. It took time to settle the team combination and build bonding. He said this balance is needed going forward.
Speaking about the batting order, Mahedi said the top order has performed in most matches. The middle order did not get many chances earlier. He mentioned Shadman Islam and said returning to the BPL after a long gap was not easy. He said long breaks without batting can create pressure. He added that everyone cannot perform every day. He once again praised Hasan Nawaz and called his effort brilliant.
On the World Cup, Mahedi said, “No, I do not think anyone is panicking about it. No matter how big the problem is, everyone comes to play by putting it aside. Every batter has a different kind of preparation. They are probably trying to figure out what works best for them. To perform in the World Cup, being in form is important. I hope they will do well at the right time.”
Later, speaking about the uncertainty around the World Cup, Mahedi said, “The uncertainty is with the management and the officials. The players have no role in this. The players’ job is to play. Even if you send them to play on Mars, they will go and play. I do not think there is any doubt in the minds of the players about this.”
