A Dhaka court has acquitted private television channel Ekushey Television (ETV) Chairman Abdus Salam in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for allegedly failing to submit his wealth statement within the stipulated time.
Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 delivered the verdict on Tuesday, stating that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
Abdus Salam was present in court during the pronouncement of the verdict. His counsel, Advocate Md Borhan Uddin, confirmed the acquittal to reporters.
According to case documents, the ACC served a notice on Abdus Salam on 21 November 2016, directing him to submit his wealth statement within seven working days as per legal requirements. Despite seeking extensions, he allegedly failed to do so by the final deadline of 8 January 2017.
Subsequently, ACC Deputy Director Md Shamsul Alam filed the case with Ramna Model Police Station on 13 April 2017. After investigation, ACC Deputy Director Md Nurul Huda submitted the charge sheet against Abdus Salam on 25 February 2025.
The court later framed charges and proceeded with the trial, during which nine witnesses testified. After reviewing the testimonies, the defence statement, and hearing final arguments, the court acquitted Abdus Salam of all charges.
