Energy Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku has called upon businessmen across the country to cooperate with government decisions on power savings to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the summer and irrigation seasons amid the ongoing global situation.

The minister made the appeal at an exchange meeting with representatives of business organisations from across the country held on Saturday at the Bijoy Hall of the Power Building in Dhaka.

“The decision has been taken for three months for now, but this period could be adjusted through discussions with businessmen before Eid-ul-Azha,” the minister said.

Business leaders assured compliance with the government’s decisions while also presenting some recommendations and demands. The minister requested their cooperation for this temporary period and said their demands would be discussed.

According to Cabinet decisions, government institutions have taken various initiatives and all necessary measures are being implemented, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud said, adding that everyone must come forward to save electricity and energy.

Also present at the exchange meeting were State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam and State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit.
