A woman was killed after a reckless goods-laden truck coming from the wrong direction hit her in Chattogram’s Karnaphuli upazila on Thursday evening.
The accident occurred around 7pm at Baro Uthan Rastar Matha in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Fazilhat Mohon Chowdhury Bari resident Bilkis Begum, 63, wife of Nurul Islam.
She was the mother of five sons and a daughter. Witnesses said one side of the road had been closed due to a janaza prayer being held for a man on the road, forcing vehicles to use the other side.
At that time, a speeding sand-laden truck travelling against traffic hit Bilkis Begum, leaving her dead on the spot.
Karnaphuli Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahinur Alam said police recovered the body after being informed of the accident.
He said the body was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination and necessary legal action was underway.
