Ekta Kapoor has hinted that her popular supernatural franchise Naagin could soon make the jump from television to the big screen, reports NDTV.
The producer took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a video featuring several actresses who have played the iconic shape-shifting serpent over the years.
The video celebrated the franchise’s journey on television while teasing its next chapter.
The text accompanying the video read, “For 11 years, Naagin has ruled the small screen. Now Balaji Telefilms Ltd is ready to take the iconic franchise beyond TV.”
Ekta added to the speculation with a short caption: “Something exciting is coming! #WaitForIt Happy Nag Panchami!”
While Ekta has not officially announced a film, the post strongly suggests that the franchise could be developed for a format beyond television.
Details about the project remain under wraps. The cast, director and potential release date have yet to be revealed, including who could take on the lead role in the new version.
The franchise first premiered in 2015, with Mouni Roy and Arjun Bijlani leading the first season. It quickly became one of Indian television’s most successful supernatural dramas.
Mouni returned for the second season, while Surbhi Jyoti, Nia Sharma, Surbhi Chandna and Tejasswi Prakash later took on the titular role in subsequent seasons.
The seventh season premiered in 2025 and featured Priyanka Chahar Choudhary, Eisha Singh, Namik Paul and Kanika Mann, among others. It concluded on 14 June, 2026.
Over the years, Naagin has remained a major television franchise despite its changing cast and storylines.
Mouni Roy became closely associated with the role after starring in the first two seasons. Surbhi Jyoti headlined the third season, followed by Nia Sharma in the fourth.
Surbhi Chandna led the fifth season, while Tejasswi Prakash took over for the sixth after her Bigg Boss 15 victory.
The latest season continued the franchise’s tradition of supernatural drama, romance and fantasy.
Now, with Ekta Kapoor teasing a move beyond television, fans are waiting to see whether Naagin will finally make its big-screen debut.
