Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department Professor Ruma has been appointed the third pro-vice-chancellor of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur.
She assumed office on 28 July 2026 following a government appointment order issued on 27 July by Kazi Nurul Islam, joint secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education.
The appointment, made on behalf of the President, is for a four-year term, according to a university statement.
Professor Ruma was serving as dean of DUET’s Electrical and Electronic Engineering Faculty before the appointment. She previously served as head of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department and provost of a university hall.
DUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Iqbal welcomed her appointment, saying her academic and administrative experience would contribute to the university’s education, research and institutional development.
Professor Ruma said she would work to advance DUET through education, research and innovation, with support from teachers, officials and employees, to build a modern and internationally competitive university.
She completed her undergraduate degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from DUET and earned a master’s degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. She later obtained a PhD in Pulse Power and Plasma from Japan’s Kumamoto University.
Her research areas include high-voltage discharge plasma, renewable energy, power electronics and power systems. She has published more than 39 papers in national and international journals and conference proceedings and has been involved in several research projects.
