The Election Commission (EC) has amended the schedule announced for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election. A notification was issued in this regard on Saturday.

Under the changes, the time for filing appeals against the cancellation of nomination papers has been reduced by two days, while the time for disposing of appeals has been extended by two days.

According to the amended notification of the Representation of the People Order (RPO), 1972, appeals against the Returning Officer’s (RO) decision on nomination paper scrutiny can be filed from 5 January to 9 January 2026, instead of the previously announced 5 January to 11 January 2026.

Furthermore, appeals will be disposed of from 10 January to 18 January 2026, instead of 12 January to 18 January 2026.

The amended notification states: “According to clause (1) of Article 11 of the Representation of the People Order, 1972, the Election Commission hereby makes the following amendments to the notification published in the Bangladesh Gazette on 11 December 2025, containing the schedule for the election of one member from each constituency for the purpose of constituting the Jatiya Sangsad.”

  1. The words and signs “under Article 123 of the Constitution” mentioned in the second and third lines of page 13,305 of the Gazette shall be omitted.
  2. The words and signs “21-27 Poush 1432, 5-11 January 2026, Monday-Sunday” mentioned against the date of filing appeal against the decision of RO in nomination paper scrutiny on page 13,305 of the Gazette shall be replaced by the words and signs “21-25 Poush 1432, 5-9 January 2026, Monday-Friday”.
  3. The words and signs “28 Poush-4 Magh 1432, 12-18 January 2026, Monday-Sunday” mentioned against the date of disposal of appeal on page 13,306 of the Gazette shall be replaced by the words and signs “26 Poush-4 Magh 1432, 10-18 January 2026, Saturday-Sunday”.

Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin announced the schedule for upcoming election on 11 December. According to the announced schedule, voting will be held on 12 February, 2026.

Accordingly, the last date for submission of nomination papers is 29 December. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held from 30 December to 4 January, 2026. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 20 January, 2026.

On the other hand, the final list of candidates will be published and symbols allocated by the RO on 21 January. Election campaigning will run from 22 January until 48 hours before the start of voting, that is on 7:30am on 10 February.
