The Election Commission (EC) has extended the deadline until 14 June for 21 candidates who have yet to submit their election expenditure statements from the 13th National Parliament elections.

EC officials confirmed the development on Sunday, saying a formal letter was issued in this regard on Saturday.

According to the Commission, the candidates concerned had failed to submit their election expense reports within the stipulated timeframe following the national polls.

The extension has been granted to allow them additional time to comply with the legal requirement of submitting returns on campaign expenditures.

In a letter signed by Deputy Secretary Md Monir Hossain of the Election Commission (EC), it was stated that candidates who failed to submit their election expenditure returns within the stipulated deadline were earlier given an extension until 6 May. However, as some candidates still did not submit their accounts within that period, the deadline has now been further extended until 14 June.

The 13th National Parliament election was held on 12 February, with the Election Commission publishing the official gazette the following day. Under the law, candidates are required to submit their election expenditure statements within 30 days of the gazette publication.

In line with this requirement, the EC on 25 February had initially requested all candidates to submit their expenditure reports by 15 March. Later, it was found that 92 candidates had not submitted their returns by 20 April. The deadline was then extended to 6 May, and has now been further extended for a second time to 14 June.
