Bangladesh opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy says he wants to create history during the upcoming tour of Australia by winning a Test match there. The batter believes the team now has the strength to challenge top sides and achieve something special.

Bangladesh will travel to Australia in August this year for a two match Test series. It will be the Tigers’ first bilateral series in Australia in 18 years. Joy feels the experience of playing on sporting wickets at home in recent series could help the team in Australian conditions.

Speaking about the challenge of playing in Australia and whether Bangladesh can compete over five days, Joy said, “Yes, definitely, because in the last four or five series we played at home, we had very good sporting wickets. The bounce was very good, there were runs on the wicket, and bowlers also took wickets. So this is a very positive thing because if we get this kind of wicket in Australia, it will be very good for us.”

“Of course everyone hopes to play in Australia and if we can win one Test there, it will become history,” he said.

The Bangladesh batter also expressed confidence in the team’s ability against strong opponents.

“At the stage we are in now, we are capable of competing against any team. If we as batters can put good runs on the scoreboard, then the quality bowlers we have can put any opponent under pressure.”
