Ebtedayee madrasa teachers have continued demonstration for the 19th consecutive day, demanding the swift implementation of the government’s pledge to nationalize all such institutions in phases.
On Friday morning, demonstrators were again seen staging their protest in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka.
Speaking to reporters, the protesting teachers said they have been forced to continue their movement due to bureaucratic complications and what they described as administrative indifference.
“Various excuses are being used to delay the process of nationalization,” they alleged.
Although nine months have passed since the government announced the phased nationalization of all ebtedayee madrasas, no progress has been made in implementing the decision, prompting teachers to return to the streets.
They vowed to continue their movement until their demands are met.
Meanwhile, the teachers have announced a long march from the National Press Club to Jamuna on Sunday to press home their demands.
Earlier, on Wednesday, clashes erupted between police and protesting teachers when they attempted to march from the National Press Club toward the Secretariat.
Police dispersed them by firing sound grenades, tear gas, and using water cannons. More than 50 injured teachers were treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital following the incident.
