Bangladesh fast bowler Ebadot Hossain is cutting short his paternity leave and returning home as the team deals with a growing injury crisis before the Test series against Australia.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has already confirmed that Nahid Rana will miss the entire tour after suffering a side strain. Another pacer, Shoriful Islam, is also doubtful for the first Test because of injury.
Rana has been ruled out after scans confirmed a side strain. He will spend about four weeks in complete rest before beginning another month of rehabilitation to return to bowling.
The injury updates also suggest that Litton Das and Shoriful are both expected to miss the opening Test against Australia.
Bangladesh now face the prospect of starting the series without two key fast bowlers.
Ebadot had been on paternity leave as he prepared to welcome his first child. He chose to stay with his family, but the injury situation has forced him to change his plans.
As a result, he will return to Dhaka from Italy on 28 July.
Shoriful is also expected to resume training after returning to the squad.
Bangladesh will leave for Australia on 1 August. The team will play a warm up match before the Test series begins.
The first Test will start in Darwin on 13 August. It will mark Bangladesh’s first Test series in Australia in 23 years.
The second and final Test will begin in Mackay on 22 August.
The two match series is part of the ICC World Test Championship.
