Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) has called on Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury to ensure swift trial for the murder of Tofazzel and unearth the full truth behind the killing of Shammo.
Ducsu leaders also demanded a transparent investigation into the killings and exemplary punishment of the culprits. The demands came during a meeting with the adviser at the Secretariat on Sunday.
In addition to security concerns ahead of the Durga Puja festival, Ducsu leaders highlighted the urgency of expediting Tofazzel’s murder trial and identifying those involved in Shammo death.
Following the meeting, Ducsu Vice-President Abu Sadiq Kayem and General Secretary SM Forhad briefed the media, outlining the key issues discussed at the meerting.
They urged the installation of CCTV cameras at every puja mandap, stronger law enforcement and intelligence measures, and reinforced security at Jagannath Hall and other vulnerable areas.
They also demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible for the attacks on puja mandaps.
The home adviser assured that multiple meetings had already been held to ensure smooth celebrations and that necessary measures were being taken.
Forhad said that Ducsu earlier visited Jagannath Hall’s puja mandap, exchanged views with representatives, hall authorities, and teachers, and also received invitations from the Shiv Temple and Dhakeshwari Temple delegations to discuss security concerns.
