A delegation from Dubai Taxi Company (DTC) on Sunday met with Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury to discuss expanding the recruitment of skilled Bangladeshi personnel.
The company expressed its intention to hire 6,000 drivers from Bangladesh this year.
The delegation informed that interviews to recruit Bangladeshi drivers will begin on Monday at the Bangladesh‑Korea Technical Training Centre, with plans to hire 1,500 in this phase.
During the meeting, Minister Ariful expressed his gratitude to the delegation for choosing to recruit skilled drivers from Bangladesh and assured them of the ministry’s full support in the recruitment process.
He requested that the company provide salaries and allowances to drivers during their training period. Ariful urged DTC to expand its recruitment to include “white-collar” professionals, such as doctors and nurses, alongside driving staff.
Representatives from DTC noted that out of their 15,000 drivers and limousine operators drawn from 27 countries, around 8,000 are Bangladeshi.
They highlighted that Bangladeshi workers are prioritised due to their diligent nature and mentioned that Bangladeshi women are currently successfully employed as drivers at Dubai Airport.
State Minister Md Nurul Hoque raised concerns regarding the high financial burden on migrant workers. He mentioned that many workers come from impoverished backgrounds and often rely on loans and requested the company to reduce migration costs to within Tk1 lakh.
Representatives from Al Anas Overseas were also in attendance. They expressed interest in recruiting cleaners, technicians, and mechanics in addition to drivers, seeking the ministry’s overall cooperation to achieve these goals.
