Dr Md Shah Amran, Professor of Pharmacy at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), has been appointed as a full-time member of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC).
The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education issued the appointment on Sunday under the Bangladesh Accreditation Council Act, 2017.
Prof Amran, who is one of three members named in the official order, will serve a term of four years, reads a press release.
A distinguished academic, Prof Amran joined IUB as a professor in 2025. He previously served as a professor and chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Dhaka. His teaching career began in 1996 as a Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Rajshahi.
Before entering the education sector, Prof Amran gained extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He served as a production pharmacist at Beximco Pharmaceuticals and Unique Pharmaceuticals and worked as a quality assurance officer at Jayson Pharmaceuticals.
Prof Amran’s academic credentials include Bachelor and Master of Pharmacy degrees, both with first class, from the University of Dhaka, and a PhD from the University of Yamanashi, Japan.
He has published more than 175 research articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals and has authored 16 books and five book chapters. Furthermore, he has supervised 23 M.Pharm, five M.Phil and six PhD researchers.
The Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) is the autonomous government body responsible for quality assurance and accreditation across the country’s higher education sector.
Established under the 2017 Act, the Council is mandated to accredit universities and their academic programmes against both national and international standards.
