Bashundhara Kings strengthened their grip on the Bangladesh Premier League title race with a thrilling 3–2 victory over Fortis FC at Kings Arena on 14 March, thanks to a decisive hat-trick from Brazilian forward Dorielton Gomes.
The win moved the five-time champions to 24 points from 11 matches, extending their lead at the top of the table. Fortis, who started the match in second place, remain on 21 points from the same number of games.
The match began at a high tempo, with both sides exchanging attacking moves early on. Fortis struck first in the 19th minute when Nigerian striker Onyekachi Okafor finished confidently after meeting a defence-splitting pass from Pa Omar, putting the visitors 1–0 ahead.
Kings responded quickly. In the 24th minute, Rakib Hossain burst down the right flank and was brought down inside the penalty area by Fortis defender Abdullah Omar. The referee immediately pointed to the spot, and Dorielton converted the penalty two minutes later to bring the hosts level.
The foul also earned Abdullah Omar a yellow card as tensions briefly rose between the players. The first half ended with the sides locked at 1–1.
Kings increased the pressure after the restart and took the lead in the 52nd minute. Faisal Ahmed delivered a well-weighted cross into the box, which Dorielton met with a composed finish to score his second goal of the match and put the hosts ahead 2–1.
Fortis, however, showed resilience and fought their way back into the game. In the 75th minute, Bhutanese winger Dawa Tshering delivered a corner that was met by Ananta Tamang, whose powerful strike restored parity at 2–2.
But Fortis’ celebrations were short-lived. Just three minutes later, in the 78th minute, Dorielton struck again, breaking through the Fortis defence to complete his hat-trick and secure a 3–2 win for Bashundhara Kings.
Elsewhere on 14 March, Abahani Limited defeated Brothers Union 2–1 in Munshiganj to record their fifth win in 11 league matches. The victory moved them to 19 points and kept them third in the standings.
In Gazipur, Arambagh produced a dominant performance to beat PWD 3–0. It was their second victory in 11 matches, taking them to nine points and ninth place in the league table.
