Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam has emphasised that winning public trust is the foremost priority for the Postal Department as a service-oriented institution.
The minister made the remarks during an exchange of views meeting with officials after inspecting the General Post Office (GPO) in the capital on Saturday.
“Improving the quality of service will further strengthen people’s confidence in the Postal Department,” Anam said.
Describing Dhaka GPO as a traditional and landmark institution of the country’s postal service, the minister stressed that maintaining a clean, orderly, and functional environment is the responsibility of all concerned.
“Through collective efforts, it is possible to transform the Postal Department into a more modern and service-friendly institution,” he added.
Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Abdun Naser Khan, speaking as a special guest, termed the traditional GPO campus an important national asset and called for its effective use.
“Initiatives for prompt cleaning, repair, and proper utilisation must be taken so that no questions arise regarding this asset in the future. The ministry will cooperate regarding funding or other assistance if necessary,” Khan said.
During the inspection, the minister was briefed on the GPO’s overall activities, service delivery process, and various infrastructural aspects.
Director General of Bangladesh Post Office Kazi Asadul Islam presided over the meeting, which was attended by officials from various levels of the Postal Department.
Later, the minister held an exchange of views with officials at the BTRC head office, where Prime Minister’s Adviser Rehan Asif Asad was present.
