Country music icon Dolly Parton was laid to rest in a small private service on Friday, in keeping with her wishes, reports Deadline.

Her great-niece, Lainey Parton, confirmed the ceremony in a social media tribute after the funeral.

“This is a really hard post for me to make,” Lainey wrote, saying she had waited until after her grandmother’s burial before sharing her feelings.

She said Parton, who had no children of her own, made her family members feel as though they were her own and had always offered them love and encouragement.

“I feel incredibly lucky that I got to call her my granny,” Lainey said, thanking Parton for believing in her and making her feel that she could achieve anything.

Parton died on 25 August and was laid to rest at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville, one of the city’s largest cemeteries.

The cemetery also serves as the final resting place of several country music figures, including Porter Wagoner, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Eddy Arnold and Marty Robbins.

Parton’s burial there also placed her close to her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, who died in 2025 and was laid to rest at the same cemetery.

According to People, Dean was buried in a mausoleum where a large plaque bears his name, Parton’s name and their wedding date. The publication reported that Parton was likely laid to rest beside her husband.
