Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has launched a special campaign titled “Operation Clean Homes, Healthy Lives” to raise awareness about mosquito control and prevent dengue, with the city’s administrator calling for active public participation.
The campaign was inaugurated on Saturday morning at Dhaka Cantonment Board Adarsha Bidyatan premises, with DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan attending as chief guest.
“This special mosquito control programme has been undertaken with the goal of ensuring the protection of our children from dengue. Cleaners and mosquito control workers will perform their duties, but the success of this programme is not possible without the active cooperation of city residents,” the administrator said.
The campaign will continue until 21 May, with 10 mosquito control workers from DNCC and 10 from BRAC participating daily.
After the inauguration, the administrator distributed awareness leaflets about dengue to nearby houses and called upon residents to cooperate with the corporation.
Prime Minister’s Private Secretary-2 Abdur Rahman Sani said at the event, “Mosquito control is not only the government’s responsibility; all citizens must be aware and responsible. Collective awareness is the only effective solution to this problem.”
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman said a total of 21 special mosquito control and cleanliness campaigns will be conducted every Saturday.
“Our fight against dengue must begin from our own homes. Desired success is not possible without public participation,” he stressed.
The administrator also assured that any road or waterlogging problems in DNCC areas reported by residents would be addressed quickly. Larger-scale mosquito control activities are planned for the future.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury.
