With Christmas a few days away, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz has provided approximately Tk20 lakh in financial incentives from the Administrator’s Discretionary Fund to 21 churches in the capital.
It is hoped that this incentive will play a supportive role in religious arrangements, social welfare initiatives, and overall community preparations centered around Christmas, a press release from DNCC’s press wing stated on Monday.
Extending greetings to all on the occasion of Christmas, DNCC Administrator Azaz said, “We are working to create an environment where people of all religions in the city can observe their religious festivals in a safe, joyful, and festive atmosphere. We want to transform this city into a multicultural, humane city where people of any religion and culture can live without fear and in peace. This is how we want to build this city as a city of justice and equality.”
He further said that DNCC highly values civic harmony, tolerance, and mutual respect. As such, practical support and cooperation will continue for important religious festivals like Christmas.
Previously, DNCC has provided similar financial incentives to various mosques and temples on the occasions of Eid and Durga Puja, a tradition the DNCC administrator wishes to continue in the future.
