Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) on Friday conducted an eviction drive to clear illegal shops and structures from beneath the Mirpur-10 Metro Rail station.
The operation, which took place from 9am to 1pm, was carried out in the presence of an Executive Magistrate from DMTCL. The drive targeted illegal installations that were obstructing passenger movement and compromising security in the areas adjacent to the station.
DMTCL officials said such operations are part of their regular activities and will continue in the future to take action against any illegal occupation that hinders infrastructure or passenger travel. The authority plans to carry out similar eviction drives across all 17 stations of MRT Line-6 in phases.
The operation was conducted with the assistance of several agencies, including the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Fire Service, Bangladesh Ansar, DESCO, WASA, and MRT Police. The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) provided the necessary logistical support for the drive.
Pedestrians and commuters expressed their relief regarding the move, saying that the illegal occupation of the footpaths beneath the station had long made it difficult to move freely.
While the drive has now created sufficient space for walking, many residents urged the authorities to ensure permanent monitoring and strict supervision. They pointed out that illegal occupiers have often returned after previous eviction efforts and demanded a lasting solution to keep the area clear.
