The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has implemented a comprehensive multi-tiered security plan to ensure maximum safety at the Central Shaheed Minar during Shaheed Dibash and International Mother Language Day.
DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali outlined the measures at a press briefing at the Shaheed Minar premises at 11am on Friday.
The Commissioner announced that the president, the prime minister, and other high-ranking state dignitaries, as well as foreign diplomats, will be the first to pay their respects at the monument.
The Central Shaheed Minar will be opened to the public at around 12:40am, he said.
Anticipating a massive turnout of citizens wishing to honour the language martyrs, the DMP has deployed a significant number of volunteers alongside police and other law enforcement agencies. Specialist units, including SWAT, Dog Squads, Bomb Disposal Units, and Crime Scene Units, will remain on constant standby, while intelligence surveillance and cyber monitoring have been intensified.
To manage the flow of visitors, the public has been instructed to follow specific routes. Entry to the Shaheed Minar will be restricted to the Palashi Crossing-Jagannath Hall Crossing route, with no access permitted from other directions.
After paying their tributes, visitors must exit via Romana Crossing towards Doel Chattar or Chankharpul.
For security purposes, the DMP Commissioner urged the public not to carry sharp objects, flammable substances, or explosives. He emphasised that maintaining discipline is essential to ensure everyone has the opportunity to pay their respects.
Furthermore, traffic diversions will be in effect around the Dhaka University area starting from the evening. University teachers, students, and staff are requested to adhere to these instructions. The Commissioner expressed confidence that with everyone’s cooperation, it will be possible to celebrate Amar Ekushey in a peaceful and orderly environment.
