The Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has carried out a special operation in the capital to curb sound pollution and raise public awareness on the roads.
Around 10:30am on Tuesday, DMP Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman led the drive in the Manik Mia Avenue area adjacent to the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
During the operation, he instructed officials to take legal action against those using illegal hydraulic horns, unauthorised hooters, and other noise‑creating equipment.
He also urged drivers and vehicle owners to avoid unnecessary honking and highlighted the harmful effects of noise pollution.
Speaking at the event, Anisur said the pollution poses a serious threat to public health, the environment, and urban life. A week‑long special drive is currently underway in Dhaka to regulate noise levels, he informed.
The official also called on all vehicle owners and drivers to comply with the law and refrain from excessive use of horns.
According to DMP Traffic Division, operations against noise pollution will continue to ensure a safe, disciplined, and people‑friendly traffic system in the capital.
