Content creator Tawhid Afridi has secured bail in a case involving fraud and criminal breach of trust filed with Wari Police Station.
His lawyer Iqbal Mahmud Shobhon confirmed that there is no further legal obstacle to his release from prison after the bail.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order after hearing a bail petition on Tuesday.
According to Advocate Shobhon, three cases were filed against Afridi and he had already obtained bail from the High Court in two of them.
“With the bail granted in the Wari Police Station case, he has now secured bail in all three cases, clearing the way for his release,” he said.
Tawhid Afridi, son of MyTV chairman and managing director Nasir Uddin, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from Barishal on Sunday night (24 August).
He was later shown arrested in the Wari case on 15 June following an application submitted by the case’s investigating officer, SI Md Mahfuzur Rahman.
The case was filed by Syeda Ashfah Toaha Duti, who alleged that she was defrauded in a freelancing scam.
According to the case statement, Duti was contacted through WhatsApp in January last year by an individual using the name “Fatema Oishee”, who offered her work involving Google reviews and asked her to join a Telegram group.
The scammers allegedly gained her confidence by making small payments, including Tk300 for initial tasks and Tk2,800 after she invested Tk2,000.
After building trust, they allegedly defrauded her of Tk2.35 lakh.
Dyuti filed the case against unidentified individuals with Wari Police Station in January 2023.
