The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Sunday set 4 January for the submission of an investigation report against Awami League leader Rifat Niloy Joarder in a crimes against humanity case involving the alleged enforced disappearance of BNP leader Mashiur Rahman.
The tribunal issued the order on Sunday.
Joarder, known as a close associate of former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed and former Additional Inspector General of Police Monirul Islam, was arrested in January this year in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
He is the general secretary of Unit 3 under Ward 15 of the Dhanmondi Thana unit of Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League, whose activities have been banned.
The prosecution later applied to the tribunal to show Joarder arrested in the crimes against humanity case involving the alleged enforced disappearance of Mashiur Rahman, a BNP leader from the Dhanmondi area.
On 24 May, the tribunal granted the application, ordered his arrest in the case and sent him to prison.
Joarder has remained in custody since then, while the investigation against him continues.
