The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has prohibited the carrying of weapons and the use of fireworks during Tazia processions scheduled for 26 June to mark Holy Ashura.
A press release signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Tuesday announced these restrictions to ensure public safety and the smooth conduct of the processions.
The 10th of Muharram 1448 Hijri, which falls on 26 June 2026, will be observed with Tazia processions at various locations across the Dhaka metropolitan area.
The directive highlighted that some participants carry cleavers, knives, scissors, spears, lances, swords, and sticks, which can create unwanted situations and instil fear among citizens, thereby threatening public security.
The police also noted that the use of fireworks and crackers does not align with the religious solemnity of the occasion. Therefore, in accordance with Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, carrying such weapons or sticks and setting off fireworks is strictly forbidden.
This order will remain in effect from start to end of Tazia processions.
