The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on all types of public gatherings, rallies, processions and protests in and around the National Parliament area and several key roads of the capital ahead of the second session of the 13th National Parliament.
The restriction also prohibits carrying weapons, explosives and any harmful or objectionable materials within the designated areas.
The order was issued through a public notification signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Friday.
According to the notification, the second session of the 13th National Parliament is scheduled to begin on 7 June.
The restrictions have been enforced under Sections 28 and 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/76) to ensure the smooth conduct of parliamentary proceedings and maintain law and order in and around the National Parliament building area.
The ban will come into effect from 12am on Saturday and will remain in force until the end of the parliamentary session.
The restricted zones include several major road stretches such as Mymensingh Road from Mohakhali crossing to Banglamotor via the old airport area, Banglamotor Link Road to SAARC Fountain near Hotel Sonargaon, and Panthapath from its eastern end through Green Road junction up to Farmgate.
Other affected areas include Mirpur Road from Shyamoli intersection to Dhanmondi-16 (old 27), Rokeya Sarani from its junction through the Old Ninth Division (aircraft) crossing to Bijoy Sarani Tourist Crossing, and Indira Road from its eastern end to the western end of Manik Mia Avenue.
The directive also covers the entire National Parliament Complex and all surrounding internal roads and alleyways.
Authorities said all forms of meetings, rallies, processions and demonstrations will remain strictly prohibited in the designated areas until the session concludes.
