SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh and Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC Bangladesh Operations have partnered to give young people from disadvantaged backgrounds professional training in digital marketing, marked by a cheque handover ceremony at the bank’s Head Office in Dhaka on 3 September. The programme will equip participants with limited access to education and employment with practical, job-relevant skills through hands-on sessions led by experienced trainers, alongside career guidance and job-placement support on completion.
Commercial Bank of Ceylon was represented by Chief Executive Officer Tivanka Damunupola, Deputy CEO and Head of Corporate Banking Mahmud Hossain, Deputy CEO and COO Haily Algewatte, and Head of Sustainability and Women Banking Urmi Irani Khan. SOS Children’s Villages Bangladesh was represented by National Director Dr Md Enamul Haque, Deputy Director of Fund Development and Communications Rashal Mia, and Corporate Fundraising Officer Arman Kabir Mahid.
Dr Md Enamul Haque said practical skills could open new possibilities for a young person’s future, adding that with the bank’s support, participants would leave the course with both digital marketing knowledge and clearer pathways to employment or entrepreneurship. He said the organisation was grateful for the partnership and its investment in young people’s independence, according to a press release.
Damunupola said access to relevant skills could significantly expand a young person’s opportunities, noting that digital marketing offered diverse career pathways in Bangladesh and beyond, including employment, freelancing and entrepreneurship. He said the bank was investing directly in the potential of young people and looked forward to seeing them build sustainable careers and businesses.
Through the partnership, the two organisations aim to help young people with limited opportunities acquire relevant skills and participate meaningfully in Bangladesh’s growing digital economy. The training is scheduled to begin in mid-September 2026 at the SOS Vocational Training Centre in Dhaka.
