Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned all types of gatherings including meetings, assemblies, processions, sit-ins and human chains in and around the Supreme Court area.
The decision was made on Tuesday in the interest of public order and considering the law and order situation and the notice is signed by DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali.
The ban will be effective from Thursday until further notice. This order has been issued under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, 1976 (Ordinance number III/76).
According to the notice, no type of meeting, assembly, or agitation programme will be allowed in front of the Chief Justice’s official residence, Judges’ Building, Judges’ Complex, the main gate of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, the Mazar Gate, the Jam-e-Mosque Gate, the entrance gates of the International Crimes Tribunal-1 and 2, and the Judicial Administration Training Institute building.
The notice further stated that all concerned are once again requested not to obstruct vehicular movement by blocking roads at any time in the name of programmes for various demands or protests.
Law enforcement officials said the ban has been imposed as a precautionary measure due to concerns over an unstable environment being created in the Supreme Court area following some incidents.
