Md Sarwar, the acting commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), has retired from his post following the completion of his government service tenure.
According to DMP sources, his final working day was Thursday, 14 May. On Thursday night, he handed over his responsibilities to the DMP’s Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations), SN Nazrul Islam.
As the government has not yet appointed a new permanent police commissioner, SN Nazrul Islam will oversee the activities of the DMP in his capacity as the senior-most official.
Earlier, Md Sarwar was appointed as the acting DMP commissioner via a notification from Police Headquarters on 26 February.
His appointment followed the resignation of the then-DMP Commissioner, Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali, on 25 February, who stepped down citing personal and family reasons.
