Bayern Munich winger Luis Diaz will miss three matches after UEFA punished him for rough play. The decision came after his red card in Bayern’s 2-1 win over Paris Saint Germain earlier this month.
Diaz scored both goals in Paris. He then made a hard tackle on Achraf Hakimi just before halftime. The referee sent him off at once. PSG later said Hakimi had a serious sprain in his left ankle. He has not played since. Hakimi even received his African Footballer of the Year award while moving on a scooter.
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany first thought Diaz would miss only the match at Arsenal on Wednesday. UEFA changed that. Diaz will also miss the home match against Sporting on December 9. He will then miss the match against Union St Gilloise on January 21.
Kompany said earlier on Friday that he expected a one-game ban. He said he would feel upset if that information proved wrong.
Bayern remain at the top of the Champions League group. They have 12 points from four matches. Arsenal and Inter Milan also hold perfect records.
