Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, has been ranked 171st out of 173 cities in the latest global liveability index.
According to the annual ranking published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Dhaka is ahead of only Libya’s capital Tripoli and war-torn Damascus, the capital of Syria.
The EIU assesses cities based on several indicators, including stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.
In this year’s index, Dhaka scored 42, retaining its position as the world’s third least liveable city for the second consecutive year. The capital also ranked 171st among 173 cities in last year’s assessment.
At the other end of the ranking, Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, was named the world’s most liveable city with a score of 98.
Austria’s Vienna and Australia’s Melbourne secured the second and third place, respectively. Tokyo was the only Asian city to make it into the top 10.
The report also highlighted that cities in China and Japan have continued to improve their rankings in recent years due to sustained progress in various sectors.
