For years, a Dev film was almost synonymous with music by Jeet Gannguli.
His compositions and vocals, paired with Dev’s on-screen presence, produced several chart-topping songs that remain fan favourites.
Now, that nostalgia is set to return to Tollywood with Dev’s upcoming Durga Puja release, Deshu 7.
According to reports, a recreated version of the iconic title track from the 2009 film Poran Jay Jwaliya Re will feature in Deshu 7, bringing one of Dev’s most memorable songs back to the big screen.
Dev stars opposite Subhashree Ganguly in the film.
However, unlike the original, Jeet Gannguli is not composing the recreated version.
His absence has sparked curiosity, especially since his music was once considered an integral part of Dev’s films.
Industry buzz had suggested that Jeet would be in charge of the film’s soundtrack, including the recreated classics.
However, reports indicate that the composer, who usually prefers handling an entire album rather than just one or two tracks, declined after reportedly being approached to compose only two songs.
Despite not serving as the film’s music director, Jeet Gannguli has not been left out of the project entirely.
Sources say he has lent his voice to one of the songs in Deshu 7, with Dev lip-syncing to the track on screen.
The song has been composed by Savvy, while the lyrics have been penned by Prosen.
As a result, fans will once again witness the popular Dev–Jeet collaboration, this time with Jeet returning as a singer rather than a composer.
Meanwhile, Dev and Subhashree are currently in Ladakh, where they are filming one of the songs for the movie.
In addition to producing Deshu 7, Dev is also directing the film. If all goes as planned, the seventh on-screen collaboration between Dev and Subhashree is slated for release during this year’s Durga Puja.
