Bangladesh reported one new dengue-related death and 633 hospitalisations in the past 24 hours, as the mosquito-borne disease continues to strain the nation’s health system.
The latest fatality raises the official death toll for the year to 367, according to a daily bulletin released on Tuesday by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The capital remains the epicentre of the outbreak, with the Dhaka North City Corporation area reporting 136 new admissions and Dhaka South City Corporation reporting 81. Outside the capital, Dhaka division reported 126 cases, while Chattogram division recorded 86 and Barishal division 82. Other regions reported fewer cases, with Khulna division at 47, Mymensingh division at 40, Rajshahi division at 23, and both Rangpur and Sylhet divisions reporting six new cases each.
Patient discharges during the same period outpaced new admissions, with 691 individuals released from hospitals. The cumulative recovery figure for the year now stands at 88,949.
National data from the DGHS shows that from 1 January to 25 November, the country has recorded 91,602 confirmed dengue cases. The infection demographic skews male, who account for 62.4 per cent of all cases, while females comprise 37.6 per cent.
