BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said a truly democratic state could be established under the leadership of Tarique Rahman.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after paying tribute at the grave of former president Ziaur Rahman at Chandrima Udyan in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Mirza Fakhrul said the BNP believes Tarique Rahman’s leadership would ensure the restoration of democracy and the protection of people’s political rights.
Referring to a reception accorded to Tarique Rahman on Thursday, the BNP leader described it as historic, claiming that no leader in the country’s political history had previously received such a reception.
He added that the public response reflected widespread expectations and support for democratic change in the country.
