The gruesome killing of Indian civil services aspirant Ram Kesh Meena in Delhi’s Timarpur earlier this month has taken a chilling turn, with investigators confirming that he had stored sexually explicit videos and photos of several women on his hard drive.
Delhi Police said his live-in partner, Amrita Chauhan, conspired with her former boyfriend and another aide to kill him fearing exposure of her private images.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia, Meena and Chauhan had been in a relationship for some time, but she recently tried to reconnect with her ex-boyfriend, Sumit Kashyap. “Amrita wanted to end the relationship, but she was scared that Meena might release her private photos and videos online after he refused to delete them,” said the DCP, reports regional agencies.
Meena’s charred body was discovered on October 6 after a cylinder explosion inside his North Delhi flat. Police initially suspected an accident, but the autopsy and forensic evidence later indicated foul play. Following three weeks of investigation, officers arrested Chauhan, Kashyap, and their mutual friend Sandeep Kumar for their alleged involvement in the murder.
Investigators said Chauhan had first planned to steal Meena’s hard drive, but when she failed to locate it, she sought help from Kashyap and Kumar. The trio allegedly tied Meena to a chair and tortured him to recover the device. As he resisted, Kumar reportedly strangled him using a mobile charger wire. To stage the murder as an accident, they placed a gas cylinder beside the body, opened the valve, and set fire to the room.
Police added that Chauhan, a forensic science student and an avid follower of crime web series, attempted to make the scene appear like a gas explosion. “It is evident that Meena had been friends with several women. We have not received any complaint from them so far, nor can we confirm if those videos were taken with consent,” a senior officer said.
Authorities continue to probe the digital evidence to determine whether Meena’s stored materials were shared or misused.
