Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) has arrested Ahsan Zahir Khan (50), an Ehsar member of the banned militant organisation Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), by conducting an operation in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
On Sunday, at approximately 7pm, he was arrested following an operation based on intelligence in the south-western side of the Zia Udyan Lake under Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
According to CTTC sources, the arrested Ahsan Zahir Khan is an active member of Neo-JMB. He and his other absconding associates, inspired by the ideology of Neo-JMB, had gathered at the location with the intention of planning and attempting sabotage activities aimed at causing damage to state property.
They used online platforms such as Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Telegram, communicating with one another under different pseudonyms through group chats, personal chats, and channels to carry out activities to implement extremist goals, objectives, and ideology.
There is a case against the arrested Ahsan Zahir Khan under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Phulbaria Police Station in Mymensingh district. He has been sent to court in connection with a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
When contacted regarding the case, Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station confirmed the authenticity of the incident. He told The Times, “A case has been filed in the name of Neo-JMB. The case was filed by CTTC. The accused is currently in court.”
