The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested a jail fugitive and accused in multiple fraud cases from the capital’s Mirpur area.

The arrestee has been identified as Ahidul Alam Bhuiyan, alias Sajid, 57.

According to CTTC sources, the operation was conducted at 5:35pm on Monday at a restaurant in Mirpur-1 area under the jurisdiction of Mirpur Model Police Station.

During the arrest, officials recovered 10 SIM cards from various mobile companies and 23 blank cheques associated with 10 different bank accounts from his possession.

CTTC officials further revealed that Ahidul has been involved in long-term financial fraud, including deceiving public with the false promise of sending them to Hajj.

The arrestee is a high-profile fugitive, ranked 60th on the list of jail escapees published by Police Headquarters and Prisons Department.

He also faces more than 10 pending arrest warrants related to various fraud cases filed with Monohardi Police Station in Narsingdi.

Legal proceedings against the arrestee are currently underway.
