Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Shahadat Hossain has stated that if the organisations responsible for the “door to door” project fail to comply with the specified terms, their work orders will be canceled.
Presiding over a meeting with the cleanliness department at the CCC office in Tigerpass on Sunday, he said, “There have been complaints of negligence against some organisations in fulfilling their duties. If they cannot ensure service, the contracts of the concerned companies will be terminated. If necessary, the project will be halted, and cleanliness operations will resume under the previous system.”
The mayor further added, “There is no need to continue a project that fails to ensure citizen satisfaction. Companies must carry out the work with their own staff; CCC employees cannot be used.”
He reported receiving information that garbage remains piled up in various parts of the city. Regarding this, he stated, “If cleanliness workers perform their duties properly, this problem should not occur. Employees responsible for wards where cleanliness cannot be maintained will be transferred.” The mayor himself will conduct on-site inspections in various areas and take action if weaknesses are found.
Addressing the cleanliness workers, the mayor said, “The Door-to-Door project was launched to make your work easier. But now you are avoiding your responsibilities. Remember, keeping the city clean is your moral duty. If you see garbage lying anywhere, it must be cleaned promptly.”
At the meeting, Chief Cleanliness Officer Commander Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury highlighted the shortage of equipment and supervision in cleanliness operations. Also present were Malaria and Mosquito Control Officer Md Sharful Islam Mahi, Deputy Chief Cleanliness Officer Pranab Kumar Sharma, and officials from the relevant department.
