The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Shahadat Hossain has taken immediate action against an influential circle attempting to illegally occupy government land for commercial construction in the city’s Katalganj area.
During a surprise inspection on Tuesday afternoon, he ordered an immediate halt to the construction work and directed relevant officials to conduct an eviction drive.
Shahadat also announced that a children’s park, modelled after Dhaka’s Ramna Park, will be developed on the reclaimed land.
During the visit to the site located in front of Ibn Sina Hospital, Shahadat observed that a powerful syndicate had fenced off a plot containing more than 50 trees with tin sheets.
The occupiers had already made significant progress in constructing a permanent structure, including the casting of RCC pillars and the building’s frame.
Expressing his strong indignation, Shahadat asserted that no commercial structures would be permitted to occupy the city’s green and open spaces. In addition to the eviction order, he issued a stern warning that legal action would be taken against those involved in the land grabbing.
Earlier that day, Shahadat inspected ongoing cleanliness activities in various areas, including the Mohra Ward. To address the city’s waterlogging issues, six internal committees have already been formed, coordinating across various departments of the City Corporation.
