Chattogram City Corporation Mayor and BNP leader Shahadat Hossain has met with BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman in London after nearly 17 years, during the mayor’s personal visit to the United Kingdom.
Shahadat shared the moment on social media on Saturday, posting photographs and a message expressing his enthusiasm.
In his Facebook post, he wrote on Sunday, “After 17 long years, with my leader, BNP’s acting chairman and national leader Tarique Rahman,” listing his location as Kingston, London.
Published photographs show Shahadat presenting Tarique Rahman with a commemorative book marking one year since he assumed office as Chattogram Mayor.
Shahadat had travelled to the UK on a personal visit on 9 November.
The former Chhatra Dal leader rose to prominence through his active role on the ground during the post-1/11 crisis period. Over time, he became known within the BNP as a close confidant of Tarique Rahman. He also led the Chattogram Metropolitan BNP for nearly 12 years.
Following the fall of the Awami League regime on 5 August 2024, Shahadat assumed the office of Chattogram Mayor pursuant to a court order.
