Chattogram District Stadium came alive on Thursday morning with a colourful Independence Day parade, as uniformed forces and students showcased discipline, patriotism and the spirit of the Liberation War.
The district administration organised the programme on 26 March, drawing contingents from Bangladesh Police, Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), Fire Service and Civil Defence, and the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC). Their coordinated march-pasts and precise formations offered a striking display of order and unity.
Scouts and Girl Guides from various educational institutions across the city also took part, presenting drills and performances. In the post-parade display segment, students used physical exercises and choreographed routines to depict the history and legacy of the Liberation War.
The programme began with the hoisting of the national flag and the singing of the national anthem, followed by student assemblies and display performances.
Divisional Commissioner Md Ziauddin attended as chief guest. He described 26 March as a day of pride and honour for the nation, paying tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War. He urged the younger generation to uphold the spirit of independence and equip themselves with skills suited to a technology-driven world.
He added that independence was not merely the attainment of territory, but a continuing journey towards unity, development, peace and human rights. He also expressed hope for building a prosperous and inequality-free Bangladesh.
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia chaired the event. Among the special guests were Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Hasib Aziz, Chattogram Range DIG Md Ahsan Habib Palash, and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan.
Freedom fighters, government officials, representatives of private organisations, and students from schools and colleges were also present.
