Copyshop has launched the country’s first advertising skill training centre, the Dhaka Advertising School (DAdS), unveiled at the 11th Copykolorob mentoring session in Banani, Dhaka.

The school marks the first official platform in Bangladesh for hands-on learning in advertising and communications.

DAdS aims to institutionalise advertising education through an industry-focused curriculum designed by professionals. The launch event was attended by dignitaries, including Nazim Farhan Choudhury, Managing Director of Adcomm, who expressed optimism about its prospects.

According to Syed Gousul Alam, Managing Director of DotBirth, advertising cannot be learned through universities alone. “You have to practice, read, and understand people’s psychology.” Rebecca Ali, Strategy Director of DotBirth, added that advertising is “about selling ideas to clients and agencies, not just products to consumers,” he said.

DAdS is open to both professionals and individuals from other fields. “Our school is not going to produce mediocrity. All who want to learn will be welcomed,” said Syful Akbar Khan, Sr. Creative Director, AML.

Founder Mushfiqur Rahman Pavel, also Curator of Copyshop, explained the need for such an institution, “Learning advertising skills in Bangladesh is still considered guru-disciple work. With DAdS, we aim to enhance innovative capabilities.” He stressed the importance of “unlearning” old notions to adapt to the industry.

Programs at DAdS are being developed by industry experts to ensure functional application-oriented training. Students will gain practical exposure to complement theoretical knowledge, preparing them to contribute meaningfully to both local and global advertising.
