The referee who oversaw Bangladesh’s 2–1 home defeat to Singapore in June, a match that ended amid fury over a late penalty decision, has been appointed to take charge of the upcoming Bangladesh versus India fixture.
Clifford Daypuyat of the Philippines will referee the match. He has served as a FIFA listed referee in his country since 2014 and is the most senior of the Philippine officials who received a FIFA badge in 2025.
Daypuyat will be joined by two Philippine assistant referees. Nannola Crizmark has been on the FIFA assistant list since 2017 and Lachicha Giovanni since 2018. All three officials worked the Singapore match that became contentious when, in the 93rd minute, Faisal Ahmed Fahim appeared to be tackled from behind inside the box by Irfan Najib. The decision not to award a penalty prompted significant criticism from Bangladesh supporters and raised questions about the officiating team.
The refereeing crew will be overseen by assessor Naser Mostafa of Jordan, a former FIFA referee. Match operations will fall under the authority of the match commissioner, Si Thu Win of Myanmar.
The fourth official for Bangladesh versus India will be Sri Lanka’s Kashun Lakmal, who recently took charge of Bangladesh’s meeting with Nepal on 13 November in Dhaka. Fourth officials have attracted attention around Bangladesh matches in recent months, often because of delays in substitutions linked to head coach Javier Cabrera’s indecision, a situation that frustrated Hamza during the Singapore fixture.
