Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam on Wednesday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure, telling officials that “the country comes first.”
He made the remarks while addressing senior officials at two separate views-exchange meetings following his assumption of office at the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping.
State Ministers Habibur Rashid and Md Rajib Ahsan were also present.
The first meeting was held in the morning at the conference room of the Bridges Division in Banani, while the second took place at 4:30pm at the Secretariat conference room of the Road Transport and Highways Division in Dhaka. Senior officials from both divisions attended the sessions.
The meetings reviewed the progress of ongoing projects, assessed implementation challenges, and outlined measures to strengthen coordination and efficiency.
Addressing officials, the minister directed that all public welfare projects be completed within the stipulated timeframe without compromising quality.
He emphasised integrity, transparency, discipline, and professionalism in the discharge of official duties.
Describing the current administration as a people-oriented government, he said all public institutions must work in the national interest. Highlighting the need to reduce public suffering, he called for ensuring a sustainable and efficient transport system nationwide.
The minister also instructed officials to take necessary measures to ensure smooth travel during the upcoming Eid holiday.
Among those present were Bridges Division Secretary Mohammad Abdur Rouf, Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Dr Ziaul Haque, heads of agencies under the ministry, and other senior government officials.
