Commerce, Industry and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir on Thursday called for more Danish investment in various sectors of Bangladesh.
Denmark’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Christian Brix Møller paid a courtesy call on the minister at the Secretariat in the morning. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation.
Muqtadir said Bangladesh is a business‑friendly country with skilled manpower, a large market and strategic location. He noted that a large number of young workers enter the labour market each year, which can play a vital role in industrial expansion.
He added that the government is working to improve infrastructure, logistics and ease of doing business, sending a positive signal to investors. He urged Danish companies to invest in renewable energy, infrastructure and industry, expressing hope for closer economic ties.
Ambassador Møller congratulated Bangladesh’s new government, saying Bangladesh–Denmark relations are a successful example of moving from development cooperation to business partnership. He noted that bilateral trade is steadily expanding and Denmark has become an important commercial partner.
He said Danish firms, including Maersk, are operating successfully in Bangladesh and making significant investments, particularly in renewable energy. Denmark supports Bangladesh’s economic and democratic reforms, which he said will further strengthen bilateral relations. He also expressed interest in cooperation in livestock and dairy value chain activities.
Commerce Ministry Secretary (routine charge) Md Abdur Rahim Khan was present at the meeting.
