Bangladesh Coast Guard has issued a special warning to fishermen, trawler operators, and boat owners in coastal regions, advising them not to venture into the sea due to inclement weather.
The warning was issued on Saturday by Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Media Officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard. He said the Coast Guard remains fully prepared for disaster management, rescue operations, and ensuring public safety in the country’s maritime and coastal areas.
According to the official statement, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has hoisted local cautionary signal no. 3 for coastal areas. Under these conditions, the movement of trawlers, fishing boats, and other vessels at sea is considered extremely hazardous.
The Coast Guard has specifically requested that no trawlers or vessels head to sea for fishing or any other purpose until further instructions are provided by BMD.
All vessels currently situated at sea are urged to return to safe shelter immediately. Trawler and boat owners have been asked to take the necessary steps to ensure compliance with these safety measures.
Sujan said Bangladesh Coast Guard South Zone is monitoring the situation 24/7 and is on maximum alert to maintain public safety. For any emergencies or to report accidents at sea, the public is encouraged to contact Bangladesh Coast Guard’s emergency service number at 16111.
